Everyone can contribute to improving the field of logistics, and everyone can benefit from the experts in its varied fields.

THE MANAGER - SOLE provides an opportunity for the manager to attend workshops, seminars and symposia which cover the spectrum from preparation of a request for proposal to financial or life cycle cost management.  It gives him the ability to meet and discuss mutual problems and solutions with managers In similar fields and a chance to hear and question acknowledged experts in the various logistics disciplines.  It also provides the opportunity to read or author articles which outline problems or propose unique solutions to persistent problems.

THE LOGISTICS ENGINEER - SOLE provides an opportunity for the logistics engineer to meet people who have had experiences that are similar to his.  He also meets people who have had problems different from his and solved them.  He will meet people who have established or investigated relations of logistics elements that he may not have considered.

He will have the opportunity to pursue reliability and maintainability innovations described in the society's scientific and technical journals, specialized workshops and symposia, and chapter programs featuring internationally recognized experts on the subject.

He will be able to add his weight to that of SOLE in endorsing the philosophy that the logistics support program must be initiated during the concept formulation phase and be carried out as an integral part of the total program.  SOLE believes that the contribution of the logistics engineer is vital to product development and preparation for economical and effective support of the product.

THE LOGISTICS TECHNICIAN - SOLE ensures contact with people who are in the forefront of a new, emerging profession.  SOLE will provide challenging ideas of the man-machine relationship.  SOLE is a group operating upon, defining, refining, seeking answers to and solving problems relating to logistics.

THE PHYSICAL DISTRIBUTION MANAGER/SPECIALIST - The manager or distribution specialist can assist SOLE in placing greater emphasis upon the concept of integrated distribution management, as well as integration of the distribution system into the total program or corporate structure, and upon professional recognition of distribution managers.

Many new management innovations and new techniques for the cost-effective implementation of distribution programs have been introduced in recent years.  The Society of Logistics Engineers, through its widely-recognized technical publications and its many technical symposia has provided a forum for the introduction, exchange and discussion of innovation in this important field of endeavor.

Increasing emphasis on distribution management is being given through the publication of technical papers in Logistics Spectrum, the society's quarterly technical journal, by sessions devoted exclusively to the subject at the society's Annual International Logistics Conference and Exposition, and through the conduct of both regional and national symposia on distribution management, and through distribution management workshops at chapter meetings.

THE EDUCATOR - Allows the educator to work closely with the academic community and educational institutions throughout the world in an effort to foster the development and implementation of logistics oriented courses and curricula.  Permits him to assist in the development of logistics policy and doctrine through activities such as SOLE's Education Committee and the Logistics Education Foundation (LEF), an independent non-profit corporation formed to encourage, promote and facilitate the education of professional logistics engineers, managers and educators.  Projects designed and/or sponsored by LEF are directed toward improving the responsiveness and quality of logistics research and education.  Provides an opportunity to work with and participate in the professional certification program, as well as develop symposia, seminars and workshops to further the educational goals of the Society.
